On Thursday August 31st, we had the bonfire. This year Rolla has removed cheerleading from the activities, so the Student Council took over the festivities. Before the bonfire lighting, the coaches introduced the high school football and volleyball teams. Both teams showed school spirit. The volleyball team performed their famous break and roll on the field. Following the introductions of the teams, there was a lip sync battle. There were three contestents: Mr. Eiland, Mrs. Greene, and Mr. Barrett. Mrs.Greene sang (and danced) to “Walk Like an Egyptian”. Mr.Eiland performed “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road”. Mr. Barrett executed some “Old Time Rock and Roll”. Mrs. Greene won by a vote from the crowd. The next event was the traditional pie throwing. The Junior High Stu Co made the pies for anyone to purchase and throw. The victims were Mrs. Greene, Mrs. Sohm, Coach Schnable, Mr. Barrett, Mrs. Clark, and Mrs. Gibler. The pudding and whipped topping was a big hit! Finally, everyone gathered around the horse tank. Members of the Rolla Fire Department lit the bonfire with a flamethrower. The Fire Department also shot off some fireworks for the crowd during the bonfire.
Thank you to the Junior High Student Council, High School Student Council, Rolla Fire Department, and all who helped make the bonfire a successful event!
